Energy conservation is a hot topic among homeowners.  We are all looking for ways to cut back on costs and reduce what we spend.  Energy usage is one thing we can reduce and control with a few little actions, such as residential window tinting.

The Little Things
Little things can make a big difference in your energy costs.  Little gaps, little holes and little leaks can all add up to big energy losses in your home.  Check your weather stripping to reduce the loss of your climate-controlled air through doors and windows.

Walk through your home and see if you have places that feel hotter or colder (depending on the season) than the rest of the house. Check carefully for little holes in places like air vent ducts and around electrical outlets.  These little places could account for hot or cold air getting inside and costing you money.  Make sure you check for all the small places in your walls where you could be losing energy.

The Larger Things
While the walls are important place to look for energy loss, energy conservation may begin in another area: the windows.  Modern homes have a great deal of glass, allowing for lots of beautiful natural light but also allowing UVA and UVB rays to penetrate the glass.  This can cause hot spots inside the home that might send you to the thermostat.

The natural light your so value in your home may actually be driving your power bill up.  The sun comes in through the glass and heats the air inside, making your AC system work overtime to maintain your home’s temperature.  This is often seen in areas with long, hot summers and a high occurrence of sunny days like Scottsdale, AZ.  Even energy-efficient windows could use a little help managing the sun in this area.

In a sunny, high-heat city like Scottsdale, window tinting can be a great way to reducing energy costs.  A window film can block out many of the sun’s rays and help keep your home comfortable and provide UV protection.  With properly installed window films, you can see a serious difference in the temperature inside your home.  You could see temps lowered by up to 15 degrees in previously “hot” spots.  You are also blocking up to 99% of the suns damaging UVA and UVB rays which not only cause skin damage but can also fade your carpets and furniture and ruin your curtains.

Consider having a high-quality window film from 3M or Sun Tec professionally installed by Cactus Window Tint.  You should be able to feel the difference in your home even before you see it on your energy bills.
