Will Window Tinting Damage My Auto Glass?

Window tinting is one of the nicest things that you can do for your car. You can protect your interior from the sun’s harmful UV rays while reducing heat and improving your privacy. What’s not to love?

Window tint is applied to the inside of your window. This keeps it protected from the elements and allows it to last much longer. Don’t worry about your vehicle’s defroster damaging the window tint. It’s not an issue for either item. And will your tint hurt your auto glass? Auto window tinting actually helps protect your glass so you don’t need to worry about that either. If your glass is hit by something, auto window tint will not stop it from breaking but it will help keep the glass together. You DO need to protect your window’s new tint. Most recommend to keep your vehicle windows rolled up for at least 24 hours or as long as you can stand it after that. The heat in a vehicle helps cure the window tint, removing the bubbles from the film. When you first get the window tint applied, it might look a little hazy or streaky. This fades as the window tint completely cures and the water evaporates. Don’t worry, if you go through the drive thru you can just crack open your door a little to order!

When you are ready to clean your newly tinted window, make sure that you’ve waited at least a week. Use a cleaner without ammonia and a soft cloth. If you aren’t sure if it has ammonia, check the label. Most foam cleaners don’t have ammonia and produce a streak free finish so you might want to look at those. Don’t use anything sharp on or near the window tint. It will scratch the film and leave you with a damaged section of window.
